I am a qualified primary school teacher, SENDCo and Librarian with 20 years’ experience. I offer free author visits to local primary schools (Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire) and will visit further afield for travel expenses. I ask that a letter is sent to inform parents of the visit as I cover my costs through book sales.
The talk is interactive. I talk to the children about my two series, both written in the first person. We talk about role play as a genre and then play a few pages of Forest Adventure, ‘An I Adventure’. I explain how the Adventurer Points work, the mystery running through the books and the links to the children’s learning. Lastly, I share my planning formats that are based on maps.
Sobek is the first of the follow on series of books called ‘An I Mystery.’ I explain the content and the links to the curriculum. These books call on inference and deduction so, for KS2 children, I include ideas on how to drip in additions for the plot through use of a river planning format.
Finally, I talk about the joy of the writing journey from ideas to a book. The children may ask questions when relevant plus there will be the opportunity for Q&A. I will sign any of my books the children have, plus I will have a stock of books to sell on the day. We finish with an age appropriate game of “Guess the book by the first line!”
